Foundation Coaching & Refereeing Course
The ARU & RugbyWA have introduced a beginner level course which combines refereeing and coaching. This is called a Foundation Course. This course will be recognised by the ARU and RugbyWA as the first step in qualification, but not an official accreditation through the Australian Sports Commission. The one day course is education focused with no follow up testing or tasks. It is designed to be "user friendly" with the aim to educate as many participants as possible in best practice coaching and refereeing.
All attendees of this course will be qualified in the eyes of RugbyWA to coach and referee at all junior and some senior levels.
If individuals wish to go further and become Level 1 accredited for either coaching or officiating they will now be required to achieve a minimum level of competency. If the individual feels they are up to this level, they can apply to undergo Level 1 assessment. Participating in the Foundation Course is NOT a requirement to be assessed for Level 1 accreditation (although the education content of the Foundation does help in passing).
Level 1 assessment involves the completion of exams combined with in the field assessment.

3. Advanced Coaching
Advanced Coaching is part of RugbyWA’s endeavour to improve the standard of rugby in the state, various programs have been designed to improve the quality of coaching especially at the higher levels. One of these programs is the conducting of several Advanced Coaching Seminars throughout the year for our Level 2 and 3 coaches.
These coaches have been identified as the ones who have a direct influence on players who compete at a higher level. Also, it is evident that these coaches have the desire to progress their coaching education and experiences.
