ON THE SIDELINE

 Bystander was chatting to Kate Seaward, the 2nds Physio today. I found
out there are four at the Club who regularly provide physio services and
between them they try to cover each senior game and training session. All our
Club physios have completed either a Level 1 or Level 2 Sports Trainer
course. Kate is studying Physiotherapy at Curtin and says it helps with her
study and gives her valuable practical experience but tops is having the best
seat in the house and watching the game.

It’s a long time since Florence Nightingale was forbidden to bandage soldiers
from navel to knees. But some will remember a young girl emerging ashen
faced from the change rooms two years ago. No haunted looks now. Just a
business-like “Drop ‘em Moose” and straight in there with the strapping. When
you see Kate, Sharon, Wendy or Kevin, make sure you give them that special
smile and “Hi ya” – they deserve it.

 Congratulations on their exemplary behaviour to our sideline supporters
this week. More than can be said of some others though. Who would have
though it from the ra ras! For any Kala folk who may feel the urge to get more
involved in the reffing, I would direct them to the referee web-site -
http://www.rugbywa.com.au/community_rugby/referees/referees,30563.html
They offer courses, accreditation, support and coaching (and counselling after
home games?). Kala would be proud to have you make a contribution. Like
having a priest in the family really. You know - a social boon, but a bit
embarrassing really. Our own Life Member, Sean Popperwell, received a
vocation and is a much-loved person at the Club.

 Kiwi Day was a huge success. There hasn’t been so much fun in
Forrestfield since the day the electricity arrived. The Club was a seething
mass of far too many happy people; especially considering the walloping the
Kiwis gave our gallant lads in Auckland.

 Our guys arrived in Newcastle and spent the weekend recovering from the
flight. How are we going to keep ‘em down on the farm now they’ve tasted the
fleshpots of Newcastle-on-Tyne? Meanwhile, rumour has it, the Falcons have
been doctoring the pitch for the 20/20 cricket match against the Force on
Monday evening. Josh is aiming for a start against Newcastle Falcons this
Friday 8th for Mathew Burke’s farewell from the Club. Gossip is that our Dion
is pencilled in for fullback against Saracens Academy on Thursday 12th. More
later this week.
